An ice bath that makes a layer of ice is cool.
It’s great in content and there’s something special about cracking through that top layer.
But, in commercial facilities it’s a no go for one simple reason.
If water has been frozen into ice, that means all of the bacteria has been captured in that ice.
It sits on top of the water and doesn’t flow through.
The filtration system can’t clean it out.
That bacteria stays in the bath until it thaws.
Often it defrosts in the same day, which isn’t so bad.
It’ll get cleared out.
But sometimes it sits in there for longer, meaning every person that gets into the bath could be exposed to it.
This seems minor, most bacteria in ice baths are harmless.
But, if you get something like MRSA or Crypto (which has happened a lot in recent times)- this can have some far reaching effects on your members as well as your business.
So when you’re looking at an ice bath for a commercial space, skip past the ones that make ice, or at least keep the jets on so it can’t freeze over.
It could save you a lot of headaches down the line.
