Chiller Case Study - Roar Active

Chiller Case Study - Roar Active

I recently flew across to Perth to visit a customer - Roar Active.

I saw a number of their facilities, but the one in Bibra Lake was the biggest facility I've ever seen.

7.5 acres, 13,500 square meters of facility.

Earlier in the year, before I'd seen this impressive setup, I got a call from Cam, the owner.

He was building another recovery area called The Oasis in this facility that was going to have three ice baths.

The first question he asked is, "There will be three ice baths, should we do one chiller for each tub, or is there any way we would be able to do one chiller for all three?"

I asked him some questions about the setup and size and desired temp, and it became pretty clear that one chiller would be the best option.

He was quite hesitant, and for good reason.

A previous supplier had assured him their chiller would handle a single 2,000-litre ice bath.

Fast forward to installation, and he ended up needing to run THREE chillers on that one bath just to get close to his target temp.

They'd also burned through multiple other brands that simply couldn't do the job.

After I walked him through our guarantee, he was comfortable enough to give us a try.

He placed the order.

About three weeks later, we'd finished the build and testing process and sent the chiller across to him.

It wasn't all smooth sailing.

During install, the refrigeration mechanic discovered the compressor had failed in transit - somehow it had been turned upside down.

Within 10 minutes, we had a replacement from just around the corner.

Everything was repaired the same day.

Cam got to see firsthand that our turnaround promises aren't just talk.

The chiller was fired up, and as you can see from the chart below, it pulled the temperature out really quickly and started cycling.

There are 3 x 1,200-litre stainless steel tubs attached as well as a 2,500-litre balance tank in the ground below.

The chiller also supplies the ice showers that he has off to the side.

I flew across there to meet him at the start of October, and they couldn't be happier with the chiller.

It's held temp consistently in the range that they want it to, between 3-5 degrees even with a decent volume of users coming from saunas.

When people ask about running a single chiller across multiple tubs, this is the case study I point them to.

Cam was so impressed that he now welcomes other recovery room owners into his facility to see the system in action.

It's become one of our flagship installations - three 1,200L tubs, a 2,500L balance tank, plus ice showers, all running consistently at 3-5°C even during peak usage from the saunas.

No doubt we'll be doing more with Cam and Roar Active over the coming years.

But for now, it stands as proof: when we say our chillers can handle the job, we mean it.
